7 Secrets That Make Kruger Shalati Unforgettable
1. Trackside Dining: A Journey Through History and Flavour Kruger Shalati’s story is rooted in history, inspired by the 1923 “Round in Nine” tour, a nine-day train journey…
On Mandela Day 2024, the dedicated teams from Kruger Shalati and Kruger Station came together with a shared purpose: to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those at Ndzalama Home Based Care Centre in Bushbuckridge. This facility serves as a vital resource, offering daycare and drop-in activities to support the local community, particularly those in need.
The day began with a clear mission – Our team was going to roll up their sleeves and get involved with sprucing up the facility. Our maintenance team took the lead, installing new shelving units throughout the building, whilst the rest of our team got started on giving the exterior a fresh coat of paint. Inside, we addressed various maintenance needs, ensuring the facility was in top shape for its daily operations.
In addition to our hands-on work, we brought along essential donations. A new stove and refrigerator were gifted to the centre, enhancing their ability to provide for the community. For the children, we donated toy boxes and a collection of books, sparking joy and offering new learning opportunities.
One of the highlights of the day was feeding the community. We provided sausage rolls to about 260 people, thanks in part to the generous donation of hotdog rolls from our business incubation partners, Eagle Dough Buddies bakery. Our team of ladies expertly took the lead in handling the barbeque, earning the well-deserved title of Braai Masters.
“The ladies took the lead and showed the guys that we are just as good at the ‘braai’ as they are,” joked Cherise Sauerman, Finance Manager at Kruger Shalati. In their capable hands everyone got to enjoy some delicious boerewors rolls – adding to the day’s success.
As the day came to a close, the community had a special way of expressing their gratitude. We were treated to a vibrant performance of muchongolo traditional dance, a powerful and exuberant display that left everyone feeling uplifted and appreciated.
“Mandela Day is a reminder of the power of unity and compassion. Seeing our team come together and make a tangible difference to Ndzalama, in honour of Mandela’s legacy, was truly inspiring. This experience has reinforced our commitment to giving back and making a positive impact where it’s needed most,” said Gavin Ferreira, GM of Kruger Shalati.
Reflecting on the day, it was clear that only great things happen when we come together as a community to create lasting change in the lives of the less fortunate.
